Creepy Crawlers - Day 13

After yesterday's accomplishments all of us were pretty exhausted and we were also ahead of schedule so we decided to spend the day scouting out potential sites for future PUC projects. Unfortunately, Maddie had to stay behind to care for her foot. The tragedy stuck at 12:30 AM last night, when Maddie was stung by a frequent visitor, scorpion #10. Luckily with the help of Tylenol and Pastor Dar's natural thai treatments she was able to survive <3 and remained home for the day to rest up.

After breakfast the first site we went to was the Wat Wang Khan school. We were graciously greeted by some of the faculty and brought several refreshments (my favorite part) and then we soon discovered the school's need for a water filtration system and a composting/garbage burning site.

After the first scouting, we took a quick pit stop at a nearby cave before breaking for lunch. There were a lot of cool and ancient looking artifacts in this cave although we didn't stay for very long because we got spooked by the bats and the guano smell, which according to Pastor Dar lingered on us for the entire car ride back.

After lunch we continued scouting at the Bannongo School. We found out that they currently do not have a kitchen, which made it a high priority community need. Then we visited the last school and which involved yet another kitchen undertaking and/or a potential greenhouse.

On the way home we took a detour and found ourselves at a massive local market where all sorts of treats (some not so sweet) could be found. We walked past a bug stand and some soft "omgs" and "uhhs" could be heard and before we knew it Khem had purchased a few bags for us to eat. We first sampled silk worm, then grasshopper, then crickets. Not being a huge bug fan myself, I succumbed to the peer pressure and found myself sampling everything, which made for a great team bonding session! Without water to wash down the aftertaste of the bugs we just ate we stopped by a drink vendor and got several different drinks to try--green tea matcha, thai tea, pink drink (our guess: bubblegum), coconut water, and a pineapple chunk drink.

The feast continued when we got some chicken butt, sausage, more chicken, dumplings, donuts, rice cake chips, and more! All this food was enough to power us through the rest of the night for several rounds of card games and some basketball. Although I think Reese ate too many bugs because he was a bit sluggish on the court.

Now off for some more card games!
