Finish Line- Day 14

WE DID IT! The kitchen is FINISHED and it's time to play! Also it is a very special day for one of our members soooooo HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARGARET!!!!

It was a very exciting day for the team as we finally completed the kitchen and put the finishing touches on the kitchen early in the morning. Because our project was finished early we were able to play with the students (mostly 5th-6th grade) for the rest of the day. Since so many activities were happening at the same time most of the blog will only be pictures.

BUT! Before we get to that there was one thing that happened all by itself. The lovely staff and cook at Ban Thap Ta Thaen school prepared a lovely surprise for our birthday girl.

Margaret with the students and her cake

They gathered every single student on campus and presented Margaret with a cake (a true treat here in rural Thailand) and a homemade egg custard. With collaboration between our friend Khem and the teachers all the students were also able to get an ice cream treat!

A yummy ice cream treat

After this part of the day it really just devolved into a bunch of different activities which happened all at once so here are the pictures with captions on what is going on!

Margaret installing hooks with the cook so her utensils can be easily accessed

Andres partnering with two students to get the front dust free

The installation of the fridge by the engineer crew

While a rubber band war took place directly behind them

There may have been a hostage situation

Some of the male students building their rubber band guns and popsicle stick catapults. Shout out to the girls in the back daisy chaining it up!

They got pretty creative

While most of the guys were planning Maddie's demise (she was helping with the popsicle sticks) the rest of the students were doing other fun activity stations!

6th graders at the painting station

Yarn bracelets were a huge hit!

Good old fashion coloring

As the rubber bands ceased firing we had ALL the students troop back over to the pavilion so they could leave their mark on the new kitchen.

The many hands of Ban Thap Ta Thaen

Luckily the sinks worked and NO LEAKS

Once everyone was paint free we all marched over to the front field for some soccer and frisbee!

Though some people were a little more interested in a photo op

Some of the students tried to gain some height advantage for the game (don't think it worked too well)

It was a great day and could not have been a better finish before we have our dedication ceremony next week! Stay tuned to see what we get up to tomorrow!
