Much Needed Rest - Day 10

Sawatdee ka! Sara here! Today the teams took it pretty easy and tried to recover from our busy first week of work. This morning, a couple of us decided to sleep in while the rest of us ate breakfast and attended church service. We spent most of the service trying to sing along with english translations while everyone else was singing in Thai. It took a while, but by the end of each song we were usually able to catch at least the last verse. After that, we joined the rest of the community in a delicious lunch. After lunch, Andres and I, along with a couple members of Team 138 and both of our tech advisors, went out into the community to scout new locations for next year's PUC Thailand teams. We visited the Borsumrahn community, which is a community about 20 minutes away from the church that does not currently have clean, potable water. They have asked PUC to look into building a filtration and distribution system for them.

After asking the community tons of questions to get a better idea of the project and taking lots of pictures, we sat down while the community treated us to some nice, refreshing cokes and gave us some citrus fruits that apparently make great shampoo!

After that, Andres, Khem and I went to visit our school on the way home to check on the progress that the contractors had made on Friday. Turns out, they had already replaced the roof with the new metal and insulated roof, installed the exhaust fan, and drilled holes in the walls for our piping! We then headed home and found the rest of the team asleep, so I decided to take a nap too. Meanwhile, Michael and Andres helped the cook at the church make Thai-style pho. A couple hours later, after we had all woken up and eaten the delicious dinner that they helped make, we decided to play cards. Cam taught us how to play dutch blitz and things got intense. We spent the next 3 hours yelling at each other and slamming down cards while some of the others played German Monopoly.

Exhausted from playing cards, and ready to get a good night's rest before our second work week we are heading to bed. But first, here's a list of some Thai phrases we have learned over the past week!
